Michael Ouellette has been a family office executive for almost a quarter of a century, and his new role in the US northeast will keep him closely involved in the space.

Starboard Advisors, a Maine-based firm that is part of Kelleher Financial Advisors, has named family offices figure Michael Ouellette as its president.

As part of the move, Bart Weisenfluh, founder of Starboard Advisors, will now become its chief executive. Weisenfluh will maintain all of his client relationships while working with Ouellette.

“My background with family offices provides a unique perspective for helping families and their members manage their ‘intent’ and ultimately their legacy. Each family is different in terms of personalities, governance structure, and management style, but they all need an independent, trusted advisor to help develop and extend their legacies,” Ouellette said. 

Ouellette has been a family office executive for the past 24 years representing over $4 billion of family assets. He started his career with a four-generation family office based in Portland, Maine, serving as executive vice president and treasurer for Dexter Enterprises from 1997 to 2014. His most recent position from 2014 to 2021 was chief executive of Ten Mountain Capital, a family office located in Boston, Massachusetts.  

Ouellette will continue to serve as an independent director and trustee to multiple families as well as serving on the board of directors for both publicly-traded and privately-held companies.  

KFA, which is based in New York, was founded in 1990 by Wall Street investor and entrepreneur Denis P Kelleher as an offshoot of his brokerage business, Wall Street Access. Starboard Advisors was founded by Bart Weisenfluh and Kelleher Financial Advisors to provide a dedicated team exclusively serving families as a single point of accountability.
