50 South Capital Advisors is an alternatives asset management firm with around $3.2 billion in AuM and $1.3 billion in assets under advisement.

John Frede has joined 50 South Capital Advisors, a Northern Trust subsidiary, as director of hedge fund research, strengthening the group that provides hedge fund solutions to institutional and high net worth investors.

Frede will manage the team responsible for the selection and monitoring of managers in 50 South Capital’s hedge fund program. He joins from Mesirow Advanced Strategies in Chicago, IL, where he was head of research management and a senior member of the investment team.

Before leading Mesirow’s hedge fund research group, Frede had opened Mesirow’s London office and built its research team while serving as head of European research. Prior to Mesirow, he was head of research for the Americas at Mercer Investment Consulting.
