BNY Mellon Wealth Management has announced the hire of Peter Moertl, an independent advisor, to head its international wealth management group, dividing his time between the US and Europe. Moertl reports to Donald Heberle, head of BNY Mellon’s Family Office Services and International Wealth Management businesses. Moertl, an Austrian national, has served a number of firms both in Europe and in the US where he worked for 18 years on Wall Street. Most recently, Moertl ran an independent wealth advisory firm, Dr. Moertl Consult, which he founded in 2008 to advise large Swiss and international family investors on acquiring private banks and independent asset managers. Prior to that, he served as chief executive of Zurich Wealth Management Group, an acquisition and consolidation platform for independent asset managers in Europe. Moertl has also held positions at several companies, including UBS, Deutsche Bank and JP Morgan. Earlier in May, BNY Mellon named Lawrence Hughes as chief executive of BNY Mellon Wealth Management, following the resignation of veteran division head David Lamere. Hughes was previously the president of US Markets for BNY Mellon Wealth and has been with the company for 19 years.
