Creative Planning, an RIA boasting more than $780 billion in AuM at the end of June, has made another acquisition. It has agreed to buy RVK Inc, an institutional consulting firm headquartered in Portland, Oregon, for an undisclosed sum.

RVK advises more than 200 institutional clients with about $4.3 trillion in assets. Clients include public and private retirement plans, endowments, foundations, insurance companies, health systems and other sophisticated asset owners.

Creative Planning said the acquisition will “significantly expand assets under advisement and investment consulting capabilities”.

RVK, which has operated as a business for more than 40 years, provides non-discretionary investment consulting.

The transaction is an example of the brisk M&A market that has been a feature of the North American wealth sector in recent years. See this article, for example, about 2025 data issued by ECHELON Partners, an investment bank and advisor that monitors developments in the sector.

Under terms of the agreement, RVK’s management team will continue to lead it.

The transaction is expected to close in January 2027, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. Goldman Sachs & Co is acting as exclusive financial advisor to Creative Planning.

Creative Planning has been a prominent acquirer of other firms. It announced a transatlantic deal, one of several unveiled by North American firms in recent years, in late March, when it said it was buying UK-based MASECO Private Wealth, or MASECO, a wealth advisor focused on helping clients with links to the US.

Other deals announced this year and in 2025 include Baseline, a Geneva-headquartered wealth manager; SageView Advisory Group, a firm with $250 billion in AuM at the end of June last year, was acquired. SageView is a player in the retirement plan consulting industry.
