Possible Franklin Templeton Bid For AITi Global – Media

US-headquartered asset management house Franklin Templeton was tight-lipped today about a media report stating that it is in talks to buy international wealth and asset manager AlTi Global. Franklin Templeton has considerable financial clout, with $1.79 trillion in assets under management as of June 30, as it disclosed in second-quarter financial figures. The firm reported adjusted net income of $384.5 million in the quarter, up 2 per cent. The results statement did not refer to acquisition strategy. Since forming a special committee of independent directors in 2025 to consider “indications of interest” in the firm and “assess potential strategic options,” AlTi has rebuffed overtures from Corient and other large strategic RIA acquirers. In June, Franklin Templeton announced that it planned to acquire 250 Digital, an active cryptocurrency investment management firm. This deal includes the 250 digital investment team and all liquid cryptocurrency strategies previously run by CoinFund.
A spokesperson for Franklin Templeton declined to comment when contacted by Family Wealth Report. AITi Global had not commented to this publication at the time of going to press.
An August 5 report by Citywire said the fund management group was in talks to buy the business, referring to “sources.”
Our US correspondent, analyzing AITi Global’s corporate strategy, wrote on May 11 this year that the firm has hired JP Morgan to consider options. What has held up a potential sale for all or parts of AlTi Global to be taken private is, our report said, a gap of around $600 million or more between how private equity firms are valuing the company and the premium asking price that AlTi Global management is demanding. FWR cited sources familiar with the matter.
The speculation comes at a time when M&A in the North American and wider wealth management sector is busy. As reported elsewhere, Corient scored another major deal this week with its purchase of Summit Trail Advisors, a business with $21 billion of client money.
