Winward is joining from FirstBank, which became part of PNC earlier this year, where he served as chief information officer and sat on the bank's senior leadership team. His career at FirstBank spanned more than 30 years, beginning as a teller and progressing through technology and project management leadership roles; as CIO he led the modernization of the bank's technology capabilities and supported its integration into PNC. 

Winward is succeeding Susan Koski, who left the bank earlier this year. An interim chief information security officer has served in the role since her departure, a spokesperson for FWR told this news service when asked about the matter.

Winward will lead PNC's Enterprise Information Security organization, which oversees cyber strategy, attack surface monitoring, security operations, incident response, data protection, governance, risk assessments, and third-party and subsidiary security. The unit also operates PNC's Global Security Fusion Center, which integrates cyber, physical, fraud and insider threat intelligence across the enterprise.

Winward is based in Denver, which PNC has designated as one of its strategic technology locations.

The appointment follows PNC's completed acquisition of FirstBank earlier this year, one of a series of regional deals through which the bank has expanded its technology and executive bench.
