Goldman Sachs has formed an Alternative Investment Platform, which scales up its offerings in areas including private market investment, Family Wealth Report can confirm. The details appeared in a memo seen by this news service late last week.

The business will be led by Matt Doherty, partner, who is continuing his leadership of this area.

“ACM will remain the core of the Alternative Investment Platform for our wealth clients,” the New York-listed firm said. “It has become one of the leading allocators globally and will continue to focus on curating a best-in-class alternatives platform and client experience across Goldman Sachs managed and externally managed strategies.

“The team will continue to expand investment opportunities for clients across the alternatives landscape, advise on building alternatives portfolios, and manage discretionary portfolios through our Alternatives Portfolio Services platform,” it said.

Goldman Sachs has also formed a Private Company Investments team and the Secondary Advisory Group. PCI will combine the fiduciary single-asset investment business that was formed in ACM and the self-directed family office-focused direct investment business established within Apex.

The PCI team will be led by Sam Cantor. Matt Tyas will be joining the team to lead the family office-focused direct investment business, collaborating with Apex. The Secondary Advisory Group will focus on structuring and facilitating liquidity solutions for Goldman Sachs clients and its Alternative Investment Platform.

“We continue to see meaningful opportunities to scale our Apex business, which partners with advisors to deliver specialized coverage of the firm’s premier and sophisticated family office clients globally,” the memo said.

Anushka Gupta will continue to serve as head of Americas, Goldman Sachs Apex, Darren Allaway is remaining as head of EMEA in Apex, and Jeans Wang is remaining as head of Asia-Pacific for Apex.
