Wilmington Trust Said To Seek Capital - Report

Wilmington Trust is reportedly seeking a capital infusion from private equity firms, according to a Bloomberg report. Wilmington declined to comment on the report in a statement sent out to the press.
“In response to unusual market activity in its common stock Wilmington Trust Corporation said today that its policy is not to comment on unusual market activity or speculation,” the firm said.
Bloomberg, citing four unnamed people with knowledge of the matter, said Wilmington may try to sell itself if it can’t raise more capital.
Wilmington had a capital infusion earlier this year when it raised $274 million in a March share sale after losses on commercial real estate loans and on investments in pools of trust-preferred securities issued by other financial institutions.
Wilmington Trust had $10.7 billion of assets and $8 billion of deposits as of end-June, according to data from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. The bank’s wealth management unit managed $25 billion as at 30 June.
