The latest wealth management moves in the Asia-Pacific region.

Butler Snow
Butler Snow, the international law firm, has appointed a lawyer, John Shoemaker, with a background in areas including trusts, wealth management and private client work to its business services practice group. He is based in Singapore.

Shoemaker has more than 25 years of experience in legal and regulatory compliance. His background includes common law with an educational emphasis on taxation, trusts and estate planning, including extensive experience in ensuring multi-jurisdictional compliance for product offerings, the firm said.

Previously, Shoemaker served as the global head of product management for UBS Wealth Planning Trusts and Foundations. He was responsible for the company’s division-wide Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) and Automatic Exchange of Information (AEI) compliance plans.

Shoemaker has also served as the staff attorney for Coventry Health Care of Kansas, US, where he was responsible for multistate compliance filings. He received his undergraduate in political science from the University of Kansas and his masters in taxation from the University of Alabama. He earned his Juris Doctor from Washburn University.

Julius Baer
Julius Baer has confirmed the hire of Lionel Poh as a relationship manager in Asia. Poh was formerly an investment advisor at Standard Chartered Private Bank.

A report said Poh had worked at the Zurich-listed bank before, having been director of the bank's funds advisory team for almost five years, before joining Standard Chartered in 2015. He has also worked at BNP Paribas.

Asked for details, Julius Baer did not comment on the specific countries that Poh will be covering.

Affiliated Managers Group
US-headquartered Affiliated Managers Group, overseeing more than $804 billion in assets as at the end of September last year, has appointed Kevin Haran as managing director of its Australia office, taking over from Gregor Rennie, who is stepping down, media reports said.

Haran joined AMG at the start of this year as MD and head of distribution for Australia and New Zealand. He will be based in Sydney and has more than 15 years of sales and distribution experience in the local asset management industry, according to the Financial Standard.

Most recently Haran was head of institutional sales for Australia and New Zealand at Natixis Investment Managers. Prior this, he  held senior sales positions at Macquarie and Colonial First State.

St James's Place
Financial planning industry veterans Miles Goosemann and Martin Rimmer have joined St James’s Place Wealth Management Asia, the international arm of UK-listed St James’s Place.

The men will focus on providing wealth management services to affluent and high net worth expatriates and Singaporeans, the firm said.
