The latest appointments, moves and personnel changes in the North American wealth management sector.

Baird, an
employee-owned, international wealth management, asset
management, investment banking/capital markets and private equity
firm, has welcomed The Cowans Mitchell Group to a new office
opening in Chandler, Arizona.
The Cowans Mitchell Group has joined from Edelman Financial Engines, where they managed $305 million in assets. The team includes Jason Cowans (main picture) who is joining as director and financial advisor, Wilson Mitchell (pictured below) as vice president and financial advisor, and Carmen Vander Wal as client assistant.
In addition to Chandler, Baird has five private wealth management offices across Arizona in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Kierland, Peoria (Sun City), and Tucson.
Baird’s Private Wealth Management business encompasses nearly 1,400 financial advisors averaging 20 years of industry experience and serving clients coast to coast with client assets of more than $369 billion as of September 30, 2025.

Boies Schiller Flexner
Boies
Schiller Flexner, a firm of international trial lawyers,
crisis managers, and strategic advisors, has appointed Matthew
Edwards as a partner in the family law practice in the firm’s
Washington, DC office.
Edwards deals mainly with matrimonial cases for high net worth individuals. His cases typically involve disputes over complex financial arrangements, family-owned businesses, or complex custody arrangements. He also advises clients on prenuptial agreements and provides general advice and civil litigation services to wealthy individuals and their businesses. Edwards frequently works with forensic accountants and other financial experts to help resolve his clients’ cases, capitalizing on his prior experience as a commercial and securities litigator in Big Law.
Edwards, who is a fellow of the Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, teaches business valuation and trial skills as a member of the faculty of the National Family Law Trial Institute (NFLTI). He also volunteers as a family law mentor for the DC Bar Advice and Referral Clinic.
