Who's Moving Where In Wealth Management? - GAM Investments, Stonehage Fleming

The latest senior moves and appointments in the North American wealth management sector.

GAM Investments
GAM Investments, the Switzerland-listed firm, has appointed Nick Tan and Ian Walker as director, business development.

Their appointments follow the promotion of Peter Mostarac, who joined GAM in 2011, as head of North America.

Tan and Walker will be based in New York and Chicago, respectively, and will report to Mostarac.

Tan previously worked at Conning, where he was a consultant relations manager, responsible for managing relationships with global and regional investment consultants and outsourced chief investment officer providers. Prior to Conning, he was an institutional sales associate at Aegon Asset Management and a senior investment analyst at Willis Towers Watson.

Walker has joined GAM from Calamos Investments, where he spent 11 years. He was most recently director of consultant relations, responsible for business development and relationship management with global and regional investment consultants. He joined the firm initially in 2010 as a client service representative, before becoming an investment consultant for three years.

GAM employed 652 full-time-equivalent staff in 15 countries with investment centres in London, Cambridge, Zurich, Hong Kong, New York, Milan and Lugano as at June 30, 2021. It has AuM of SFr126.0 billion ($136.3 billion).

Stonehage Fleming
Stonehage Fleming, the multi-family office, has named Johan van Niekerk to the newly-created position of head of family office (US).

Van Niekerk joined Stonehage Fleming in 2007 and, prior to his new appointment, served as partner and head of family office (Neuchatel, Switzerland). His main focus will be to further develop Stonehage Fleming’s family office offering in North America.

The appointment has been effective since September 1. Van Niekerk is based in the Philadelphia office and reports to Peter Rosenberg, head of North America.

“We are committed to providing on the ground relationship management to current and future clients in the US and Canada and to providing holistic cross-border advice to international families with interests in North America, which is a key strategic location for our business,” Chris Merry, group chief executive officer, Stonehage Fleming, said.
