The latest data from US-based Phoenix Marketing International reveal that the number of millionaire households in the US now stands at 5.4 million, up 56 per cent since 2003. The study defines such a household as one having at least $1 million available for investment.

The data also point to strong growth in even wealthier households: the number of households with $5 million available has grown to 755,000 nationally, up 47 per cent in the same period.

The Phoenix Affluent Marketing Service programme is a continuously fielded survey of affluent and high net worth households throughout the US. It aims to provide an ongoing summary of affluent and high net worth household investment, financial and affluent lifestyle behaviours and attitudes.
