UBS Recruits Former Senior Deutsche Bank Managers In Asia

The Swiss banking and wealth management giant has appointed two former senior executives at a European rival for its business in Asia.

UBS has appointed two former Deutsche and Citigroup senior managers to its wealth team in Asia-Pacific.

Ravi Raju was appointed co-head of its global ultra-high net worth in Asia-Pacific, while the Switzerland-headquartered firm also named Anurag Mahesh as head of its global family office group in Asia. Amy Lo remains country head, Hong Kong. August Hatecke (Head WM South East Asia) and Lo were previously the co-heads Global UHNW Asia-Pacific. Lo will continue in this role in addition to her role as head of WM Greater China and country head, Hong Kong while Hatecke will fully focus on his role as head of wealth management South East Asia.

Raju, who is based in Hong Kong, reports to Josef Stadler, head of global UHNW, and Edmund Koh, head of wealth management, Asia-Pacific. Mahesh, meanwhile, reports to Raju, Amy Lo, head of UBS Wealth Management Greater China & Country Head of UBS Hong Kong, and the global head of the global family office, Sara Ferrari, UBS said in a statement yesterday.

"We see tremendous potential for the UHNW segment in Asia Pacific, and I am delighted to welcome Ravi and Anurag to our team. They have a successful track record and deep understanding of the sophisticated needs of UHNW clients and their expertise offers a terrific opportunity for us to further accelerate the growth of our footprint in this dynamic region,” Stadler said.

Previously, Raju was at Deutsche Bank, as regional head of wealth management for Asia-Pacific from 2007. From 2012 to 2015, he was the APAC head for Deutsche Bank’s Asset & Wealth Management business that served both Institutional and Private clients in the region. He spent 16 years with Citigroup before joining Deutsche Bank.

Mahesh was global head of Key Client Partners for Deutsche Bank Wealth Management and a member of the DB WM Global Executive Committee. Prior to this, he was DB WM’s coverage head for APAC and responsible for the KCP group in APAC. Before Deutsche he, like Raju, was at Citigroup.

This publication is seeking to clarify if the roles involved in the appointments are newly-created or adjustments following moves by predecessors. It may update in due course.
