Hatch goes on to bigger role with the megabank's wealth-management business. Citi Smith Barney has named James Tracy as head of Investment Advisory Services. He replaces Paul Hatch, who was recently made head of wealth-management investments for Citigroup's Global Wealth Management, a division that takes in Citi Private Bank, Citi Investment Research and Smith Barney.

New job, same boss

The promotion puts Tracy in charge of Smith Barney's private-client and institutional investment-consulting groups, its portfolio-management team and Smith Barney Advisor, a fee-based, a non-discretionary investment advisory service.

Tracy has been with Smith Barney for nearly 20 years. He replaced Hatch as head of Smith Barney's fee-based Consulting Group in 2005. Before that he was responsible for the brokerage's business in its Great Lakes region -- an area that, over the years, has been especially receptive to Smith Barney's efforts to promote fee-based services.

"Under Jim's leadership, Consulting Group expanded its capabilities and reinforced its position as the dominant provider of investment consulting services," says Hatch. "He has repeatedly demonstrated his grasp of industry trends and his ability to provide our Financial Advisors with highly competitive tools and programs."

Tracy still reports to Hatch.
