Swiss Up The Ante With Ring Made Entirely Of Diamond

Your glamorous correspondent thought she had seen it all when January saw the world’s most diamond-encrusted ring unveiled, but it seems that when it comes to "a girl’s best friend", the stakes just keep rising.

At the start of the year news emerged that the "Tsarevana Swan" had made the Guinness Book of World Records for "the most diamonds set in one ring wearable on the human finger." Priced at an eye-watering $1.3 million, the 44.72 gram ring contains a total of 10.48 carats of diamonds.

But the Tsarevana Swan has now been shouldered aside by another world first: a ring made entirely of diamond.

The Tsarevana Swan was created by Lobortas Classic Jewelry House of Kiev, but this time it is the Swiss who are pushing back the boundaries of bling.

Geneva-based jewellery house Shawish will unveil the ring - worth some SFr70 million ($76 million) - today at the Baselworld exhibition. And at 150 carats it is sure to wow the crowds.

The ring is the product of some ground-breaking laser technology which allows technicians to cut directly into the rough diamond.

But Ms Moneta won’t worry her pretty little head about the science behind the ring and instead will content herself with marvelling at the stunning results. The only worry now is... will it fit?
