STEP Nominated for Lobbying Awards

The UK-based Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, a tax and estate planning advocacy group, has been nominated for a lobbying award for its work on changes to the UK government’s resident non-domicile regime.

STEP highlighted the benefit of resident non-doms to the

UK economy, showing that up to half of this important segment of the population was preparing to quit the country or sell their investments as a result of the government’s plans to impose an annual levy on non-doms and change the tax treatment of their worldwide income.

“Ultimately the Treasury backtracked on the most damaging changes to the offshore regime,” STEP said.

The organisation has been nominated in two categories of the Public Affairs Awards 2008: Private Sector Team of the Year and Trade Body of the Year.  Lionel Zetter, STEP 's political consultant, was also nominated for Personality of the Year.

Voting closes on Friday, 13 June.
