RBC Wealth Management Names New Managing Director

The Canadian company has added a Morgan Stanley veteran to its US management team.

Royal Bank of Canada Wealth Management has appointed Brian Katz as managing director of its Boston office.

Katz has more than 30 years’ financial industry experience, with 28 of these spent in a senior leadership role at US-based Morgan Stanley and its predecessor companies.

He also spent 12 years as managing director and regional director at both Smith Barney and Morgan Stanley and led significant portions of their wealth management businesses, RBC said.

Most recently, he was divisional vice president of branch development for Ameriprise Financial Inc, where he directed the firm’s advisor recruitment process across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

In his new role, Katz will oversee seven branches and more than 50 financial advisors.

He replaces Paul Leyden, who is assuming a role in the bank's production department, RBC confirmed to this publication.

“Brian has a proven track record of attracting talent to his organizations, and has developed strong relationships throughout the industry,” said Pat Vaughan, director of RBC’s East division, adding:  “We are proud to have him join RBC as we look to grow and expand in the Boston area, an important market for the firm.”
