Preview: Joe Reilly Launches Circulus Group Summit To Gather Family Office Community

Joe Reilly, a prominent figure in the US family offices sector – and regular contributor to these pages at Family Wealth Report – is launching a conference later in September.

Circulus Group – founded by Joe Reilly, its CEO – is holding a full-day conference on September 19 in Manhattan. It will gather experts in the investment and family office space to put some context around current markets.

A keynote talk by Steven Tananbaum, head of GoldenTree; an interview with Zoe Cruz, former president of Morgan Stanley and CEO of Menai Financial; and a fireside chat with Torsten Slok, chief economist at Apollo and Rebecca Patterson former chief strategist at Bridgewater are some highlights of this event.

An investment panel will feature Jason Mudrick, founder and chief investment officer, Mudrick Capital; Josh Resnick, founder and managing partner, Jericho Capital; and George Mueller portfolio manager of private credit at KKR.

Held at the offices of Mintz, who partnered with Circulus Group for the event, it promises to cover significant ground – Erik Christoffersen of Alti Tiedemann Global will deliver his findings and insights on operational efficiency in family offices. A panel on innovations in fintech covering recent trends in A1 will feature Jason Trigg from Arch Labs and Bill Wyman of Summitas.

Dan DeWolf, chair of the technology practice and co-chair of the Venture Capital & Emerging Companies Practice at Mintz, will lead a discussion on venture capital with Alex Weiss of ClearSky, Michael Sidgmore of Broadhaven Ventures, Pierre Mordacq of The Gate Capital, Owen Davis from Contour Ventures, and Ben Freeberg from Oncology Ventures. All have deep experience in the space, and Mordacq will give the LP’s perspective on the changes in venture.

This marks the debut of Circulus Group, an educational forum for family offices that emerged from Reilly’s foray into the digital media world.

“It has really been organic. I thought it was time to bring the audience from our podcasts and newsletter together face-to-face.  We reach thousands of people all over the US and in 35 countries, and the family office space has grown considerably since I last started a family office network back in 2008. There are well over 15,000 family offices globally, and they all desire connection,” Reilly said.

The most valuable information source is other people, and we can only create and build enduring relationships in person. Families are an important part of having a dynamic economy, and we want to create information and sharing networks at Circulus and engage the best thinking,” Reilly continued. “Families are learning to think more institutionally and strategically and are finding their family office can become a platform for creating meaning and purpose for the family and help make a difference in the world.”
