PIMCO Makes More Portfolio Management Leadership Appointments, Announces Two Departures

PIMCO, which recently shuffled its leadership team, has promoted four deputy chief investment officers and made a senior generalist portfolio manager hire, while also announcing two departures.

PIMCO, the global investment management firm which recently shuffled its leadership team, has promoted four deputy chief investment officers and made a senior generalist portfolio manager hire, while also announcing two departures.

The following individuals have been named deputy CIOs: Mark Kiesel joined PIMCO in 1996 and is a managing director in Newport Beach, CA. Kiesel is also a generalist portfolio manager and global head of the corporate bond portfolio management group.

Mihir Worah, also a managing director in Newport Beach and head of the real return portfolio management team, joined PIMCO in 2001. Scott Mather joined in 1998 and is a managing director in Newport Beach as well as head of global portfolio management. Rounding out the deputy CIO appointments, Virginie Maisonneuve joined the firm recently and is a managing director in London and global head of equities.

All four of them join newly-appointed deputy CIOs Dan Ivascyn, managing director in Newport Beach, and Andrew Balls, managing director in London and head of European portfolio management. They all report to founder and chief investment officer, Bill Gross.

In addition to the senior appointments, Sudi Mariappa will re-join PIMCO as a managing director and generalist portfolio manager, based in Newport Beach. Mariappa will return to PIMCO from GLG, where he has worked since 2012 co-managing that firm’s absolute return fixed income offering. He was previously at PIMCO from 2000-2011 as a managing director, portfolio manager and senior advisor.

Departures

In other changes, Charles Lahr, managing director and equities portfolio manager, has decided to leave the firm to pursue other opportunities. Meanwhile, Marc Seidner, managing director and portfolio manager, has decided to return to Boston, MA, to take a role outside of PIMCO, the firm said. They both joined the firm in 2009.

As reported last week, Mohamed El-Erian, PIMCO's chief executive and co-CIO, has resigned with effect from end-March. He will stay on the international executive committee of parent company Allianz and will advise the firm’s board on global economic and policy issues. In his new role, El-Erian will report directly to Michael Diekmann, CEO of Allianz SE.

PIMCO named Douglas Hodge, managing director and currently chief operating officer of PIMCO, as its new CEO and Jay Jacobs, managing director and currently global head of talent management, as president. In addition, Craig Dawson, managing director and currently head of PIMCO Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy, will assume the position as head of strategic business management.
