Barclays Wealth, the wealth management arm of Barclays UK, has named a new director for wealth management in India.

Shajikumar Devakar joins from Deutsche Bank in Bangalore, where he was a director. He brings over 12 years of financial services experience and has worked for the likes of HDFC Bank, Citi and HSBC.

At his new role, Devakar will be responsible for developing and serving high net worth clients in Bangalore and the region. He reports directly to Vishal Jain, managing director. 

The appointment comes at a time Barclays Wealth is expanding its coverage of India's ultra high net worth market, the firm said in a statement. Barclays Wealth has been operating in India since 2008 and specialises in the wealth management affairs of HNW individuals. It has offices in Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata.
