MF platform turns to service bureau to build scale

FTJ FundChoice wanted more than software to backstop multi-channel buildout. Mutual-fund-wrap platform provider FTJ FundChoice has outsourced its back office to Orion Advisor Services, a service bureau and provider of integrated, web-based portfolio-management systems.

"We needed a scalable back office solution that was more than just software," says FTJ FundChoice's sales and marketing chief Dean Cook. "Orion gives us a unique ability to elevate every area of our operations, and do it quickly."

As FTJ FundChoice's operations staff, Orion provides portfolio accounting and performance reporting and improves workflow by integrating open-architecture systems like relationship-managment and financial-planning software.

Dealing with Omaha, Neb.-based Orion gives FTJ FundChoice a multi-channel trading system that can handle retail traffic, according to Orion's president Eric Clarke.

"With their volume of accounts, they needed a highly functional, stable web front end," says Clarke. "Orion's is one they can roll out quickly, seamlessly and without the need to hire more developers and technical support."

Hebron, Ky.-based provides access to eight institutional portfolio strategists and to more than 1500 no-load and load-waived mutual funds in more than 100 fund families. -FWR
