Last Surviving Son Of Bernard Madoff Dies After Losing Cancer Fight

Andrew Madoff, the last surviving son of convicted Ponzi fraudster Bernard Madoff, who said he had nothing to do with the scam, has died at the age of 48 from cancer.

Andrew Madoff, the last surviving son of convicted Ponzi fraudster Bernard Madoff, who said he had nothing to do with the scam, has died at the age of 48. He died yesterday at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York after a fight against cancer, media reports said.

Madoff and brother Mark led the market-making business at Bernard L Madoff Investment Securities. The brothers contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation to expose the fraud in December, 2008, at the height of the financial market crisis.

The firm’s clients invested $17.5 billion in principal and were led to believe, through falsified statements and trade confirmations, that they had a total of $64.8 billion in their accounts, according to a report by Bloomberg. So far, some $9.8 billion has been recovered.

Madoff Snr was sentenced to 150 years in prison. Mark Madoff committed suicide in December 2010. Andrew Madoff, in April 2013, disclosed the recurrence of his mantle cell lymphoma, a form of cancer for which he had been treated in 2003.
