Investment Duo Launch Canadian Firm

The firm looks to focus on investments surrounding public and private equity.

Investment luminaries Michael Tait and Bill Webb have launched Toronto-based Waypoint Investment Partners, an investment firm that focuses on public and private equity.

The aim of the firm is to bring solutions to family offices and high net worth individuals that the founders struggled to find for themselves, the firm said in a statement.

The partners of Waypoint have invested approximately CAD$50 million ($38 million) in the firm.

Until his retirement in December 2015 after 20 years with the firm, Webb served as executive vice president and chief investment officer of wealth management firm Gluskin Sheff and Associates.

Webb began a career in investment banking with Gordon Capital in 1996. He worked in many areas of institutional finance at firms such as CIBC, HSBC and UBS. He was also a co-founder of Genuity Capital Markets, sold to Canaccord Financial,  and was managing director at UBS Securities Canada.

Also, Waypoint appointed Ryan Marr as portfolio manager. Marr spent the last ten years at Gluskin Sheff + Associates.

The team is made up of 12 professionals at the firm.

“Our aim is to offer Canadians the same distinct and differentiated strategies we have been using to create superior risk-adjusted returns for our own families – and to do so in an aligned fashion such we own what our clients own, and pay identical fees," said Tait.

Waypoint Investment Partners is a member of the Portfolio Management Association of Canada, and is registered as a portfolio manager and exempt market dealer in several Canadian provinces.
