International Firm Gets Green Light To Open Broker-Dealer In Mexico

International firm BTG Pactual is launching a broker-dealer business in Mexico and
intends to offer asset and wealth management services in the country at a later
stage.

In Latin America, BTG Pactual has a presence in Brazil, Chile,
Peru and Colombia, but has now been given the green light
by the Central Bank of Brazil
and the Mexico Securities Commission to push into the Mexican market.

Javier Artigas, who will head up the BTG Pactual | Mexico operation as regional head for Mexico, said the move will give clients in Mexico greater access to investors and
investment opportunities in the US,
Asia and Europe.

“In addition to its proximity to the US market, the
Mexican economy also benefits from the sweeping structural reforms implemented
to boost productivity in a whole range of sectors,” BTG said in a statement.

Artigas was previously vice president of strategic planning
at Bolsa Mexicana de Valores (Mexico’s
stock exchange) and managing director of UBS Casa de Bolsa.

BTG Pactual provides investment banking, asset management and
wealth management services. The firm is based primarily in Latin America but has
offices in the US, Europe
and Asia.
