Golf Beats Tennis for US HNWs

High net worth consumers in the US have rated the Masters Golf Tournament the most prestigious sporting event.

Wimbledon tennis and The British Open golf tournament were second and third, respectively.

"High net worth consumers in the U.S. tell us that the Masters is the most exclusive sporting event in the world. They also rate two British events in the top three. And three of the top five events are golf events, although wealthy women rate tennis events comparatively higher," said Milton Pedraza, of the Luxury institute, which published the research.

Events rated, alphabetically were: America's Cup; Australian Open; Belmont Stakes; Breeder's Cup; British Open Championship; Davis Cup; Formula One Racing; French Open; Kentucky Derby; The Masters Golf Tournament; Monaco Grand Prix; PGA Championship; Ryder Cup; Tour De France; US Open (golf), US Open (tennis), Wimbledon, World Cup Final (soccer), and the World Series of Poker.

The research was based upon a sample of over 500 wealthy American consumers, with an average income of $775,000, and average net worth of $14.4 million, which was surveyed online.
