Goldman Sachs Makes Changes At The Top

The Wall Street powerhouse has filled the void left by Gary Cohn, who is joining the Trump administration.

Goldman Sachs has elevated David Solomon and Harvey Schwartz to president and co-chief operating officer positions, in addition to naming Marty Chavez deputy chief financial officer, and Richard Gnodde and Pablo Salame vice chairmen.

Schwartz will remain chief financial officer through to April 2017, the firm said, adding that Chavez will assume Schwartz’s full responsibilities once the transition is officially made. Gnodde and Salame will continue in their current respective roles as co-chief executive of Goldman Sachs International and co-head of the investment banking division, and global co-head of the securities division, in addition to serving as vice chairmen.

Prior to assuming his role of co-head of the investment banking division, Solomon was global head of Goldman Sachs’ financing group.

Schwartz assumed the role of CFO in 2013. Prior to this, he was global co-head of the securities division since 2008.

Chavez is currently chief information officer and is responsible for the technology division. He first joined the Wall Street giant in 1993 in the commodities division, where he was a senior energy strategist until 1997. More recently, he held the role of global co-COO of the equities franchise.

Gnodde joined Goldman Sachs in London in 1987 and eventually went on to lead the group’s UK investment banking efforts. He has been a co-CEO since 2006.

Salame joined the banking behemoth in 1996 and became co-head of the global emerging markets debt group in 2000. He has served as global co-head of the bank’s securities division since 2008.
