Germany's Berenberg Bank Makes Flurry Of Global Hires

The Germany-headquartered bank has made a flurry of new hires across its global equity sales, research and execution teams, including three appointments in the US.

Berenberg, a European investment and private bank, has been busy bulking up its teams in the US, Europe and UK.

In the bank's New York office, Tristan Hedle joined the equity sales team as a senior sales trader from Investec, while Scott Duxbury and Bob Spillane joined to run the US execution desk.

Meanwhile, the European equity research team has welcomed Simon Toennessen, a capital goods analyst from Credit Suisse, Alessandro Abate, a metals analyst from JP Morgan, and Charlotte Keyworth, an aerospace and defense specialist from Canaccord Genuity.

Following the success of a number of recent UK IPOs, including those of HSS Hire and DFS, Berenberg has hired Liberum's Chris Bowman to lead its UK corporate broking team and further boost its ECM reputation. He will be responsible for building a team that will report to Berenberg’s global head of ECM, Oliver Diehl.

Also in the UK, Alexandra Clement, who previously worked at FinnCap and Arbuthnot, joined the equity sales team to focus on UK small-caps, while Victoria Maigrot joined from BlackRock to work in consumer specialist sales. In Paris, Alex Chevassus joined the French sales team from Nomura.

“We still see great opportunities in both cash equities and ECM, driven by our focus on high quality content and real commitment to advising our clients,” said Berenberg's global head of equities and head of the London office, David Mortlock.

The Hamburg-based bank has a strong presence in London, Zurich, Frankfurt and New York, with 19 offices in Europe, America and Asia.
