Former Dreyfus CEO Joins NorthStar Financial Services

Jon Baum - formerly of BNY Mellon's Dreyfus Corporation - has become executive chairman at NorthStar Financial Services Group, which counts CLS Investments, The Gemini Companies and Orion Advisor Services among its subsidiaries.

NorthStar Financial Services Group, the Omaha, NE-based holding company for several financial services subsidiaries, has appointed Jon Baum as its new executive chairman.

Baum was previously chairman and chief executive of The Dreyfus Corporation, which is a subsidiary of BNY Mellon. He served on the executive committee of BNY Mellon Asset Management, and on the operating committee of BNY Mellon Corporation. While there, he also held the role of chairman and CEO of Mellon Bank Securities Corporation, and helped drive the re-emergence of the corporation into the retail mutual fund industry.

Before Dreyfus, Baum was president and chief operating officer at Scudder Investments, a division of Deutsche Asset Management, having spent nearly 20 years at UBS Financial Services, where he led sales, professional development, advisor recruiting and human capital.

NorthStar, with over $380 billion in assets under management and administration, announced its majority interest acquisition by the private equity firm TA Associates in 2015. The move represented a “significant investment and continued push by TA into the RIA and fintech space," Todd Clarke, chief executive of CLS Investments, told Family Wealth Report.

NorthStar also has offices in Hauppauge, New York; Chicago, IL; Mill Creek, WA; San Rafael, CA; and Scottsdale, AZ.
