Digital Digest: The Latest Tech News - Canoe, SS&C, Others

The latest technology news in the wealth management sector from around the world.

Canoe Intelligence, SS&C Technologies
Canoe Intelligence, the US fintech firm that recently scored a big business win with investment firm Hamilton Lane, has partnered with SS&C Technologies.

The new pact allows clients of SS&C’s Black Diamond® Wealth Platform to speed up and simplify their alternative operational processes.

Canoe will also provide integration opportunities for Advent Portfolio Exchange, Axys and Geneva users.

The partnership comes at a time when, in spite of all the talk about digitalization, a great deal of the data used to show how alternative investments perform – such as private equity – is held in PDF reports, Canoe said.

“Typically, wealth managers and institutional investors manually extract relevant data points from reporting documents, then feed the data into Black Diamond. With this partnership, advisors can leverage Canoe’s technology to automatically convert PDF data into a Black Diamond-compatible format, eliminating time-consuming manual efforts and substantially reducing the risk of errors,” the firm said.

SmartRIA
SmartRIA, the compliance software platform for financial advisors, is now on the menu for LPL Financial's Vendor Affinity Program. The SmartRIA platform automates compliance functions – a major requirement in an era of expanding red tape.

Vendors are chosen for inclusion in the program based in part on the interest of LPL-affiliated clients as well as technology security and compliance requirements. Vendors offer their services to LPL Financial advisors at discounted rates, SmartRIA said in a statement.

"As the regulatory environment for RIAs continues to evolve, firms are investing increased time and resources to ensure they are managing their compliance programs effectively," Rob Pettman, LPL executive vice president, products and platforms, said.

SmartRIA, which is based in Knoxville, Tennessee, serves RIAs, hybrid RIAs and RIA networks.
