Deals Of The Day: The Latest In Wealth Management M&A – MAI Capital Management, Waypoint Wealth Counsel

The latest mergers, acquisitions and other corporate actions in the wealth management sector.
MAI Capital Management, Waypoint Wealth
Counsel
As registered investment advisors (RIA) continue to look for
partners that can provide greater scale and resources, MAI Capital
Management, an RIA, has acquired Waypoint
Wealth Counsel, an Atlanta-based, a fee-only RIA
offering financial planning, investment management and
financial advisory services. Waypoint manages about $490 million
in assets under management and serves more than 100 households.
The terms of the transaction, which was effective August 14,
2026, were not disclosed.
Founded in 2014 by Brad McGrew and Matthew Woods, Waypoint serves affluent and ultra-high net worth individuals and families, in particular entrepreneurs, business owners, executives and multigenerational families. As clients have increasingly sought opportunities outside public markets, Waypoint has focused on delivering exposure to alternatives, including through two proprietary private investment funds built to deepen that offering.
Waypoint said it sought a partner that could deliver greater scale and broader capabilities without changing the relationship-driven approach at the heart of its business. Its shared fiduciary, client-first philosophy with MAI made the firms a natural fit, while MAI's integrated planning resources, institutional family office platform, expanded alternative investment sourcing, lending capabilities and operational support, would allow Waypoint to provide more comprehensive advice, the firm said in a statement. Woods and McGrew will remain in place in their new roles at MAI, helping to ensure continuity of service for the firm's clients.
Colchester Partners served as financial advisor and Arnall Golden Gregory served as legal advisor to Waypoint.
