Credit Suisse Private Bank Asia Chief Economist Steps Down

The Singapore-based chief economist at Credit Suisse Private Bank's Asia operations, has left.

Joseph Tan has resigned after three years at Switzerland's second largest bank, to pursue other opportunities, a spokesperson for the bank confirmed. His next step is not yet clear.

The Hong Kong-based spokesperson added that a replacement would be announced soon.

Tan joined Credit Suisse in September 2008 responsible for Asian economics, foreign exchange and commodities research team in Asia-Pacific.

Before Credit Suisse he was at the now defunct Benelux bank Fortis, as an Asian rates and foreign exchange strategist. Prior to that, he was a global markets economist at UK lender Standard Chartered, focusing on Asian economies.

He is an executive council member of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs, the oldest think-tank in Singapore.
