Citi Private Bank Names North America Head

The head replaces Tracey Warson, who has moved to take on a more advisory role in the firm as chairman.
Citigroup’s private bank in North America, which has seen some comings and goings in recent weeks, has named Ida Liu to head its private bank in the continent, an internal memo seen by Family Wealth Report shows.
Liu replaces Tracey Warson, who the bank announced in April would take on a more advisory role in the business as chairman. Liu joined the private bank in 2007 as a senior banker; in 2011, she added responsibility for the North America Asian Clients group. In 2016, she became the global market manager for New York. Before joining Citi, she was global head of sales, marketing and business development for Vivienne Tam, the fashion house, and prior to that spent seven years in mergers and acquisitions in New York and Hong Kong with Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank. She has also received a number of industry awards and accolades, such as being a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, Crain’s 40 under 40, and Top 50 Asian Americans in Business.
In her new role, Liu reports to the private bank's global chief, Peter Charrington.
There have been a number of moves lately at the private bank. It created the new role of chairman for its North America private bank, appointing existing senior figure Tracey Warson to the post. Warson, who had been head of Citi Private Bank, North America, continued as a member of the global leadership team. A few weeks ago this news service reported that Citi Private Bank had created a new “strategic segment” known as private capital – institutional solutions – and hired James Holder to head this group and lead the bank’s broader family office strategy. Holder has more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry with a background covering private banking, mergers and acquisitions, and equity capital markets. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and joined the private bank in London in 2005. He was appointed head of Family Office EMEA in 2011 and global market manager for Northern Europe in 2012.
On the flipside, FWR exclusively reported in March that Bill Woodson, a managing director at Citi Private Bank, and Edward Marshall, had left. Both men have moved to Boston Private.
