Citi Appoints New CEO For Hong Kong And Macau

The latest moves and appointments in Asia Pacific at Citi.

Citi has appointed Aveline San this week as chief executive officer for Hong Kong and Macau, starting immediately.

In her new role, San will be responsible for the Citi businesses in the two markets, including fostering client and regulatory relationships, the firm said in a statement this week.

San is also the chief executive of Citibank N.A. in the Hong Kong branch, the firm added. She reports to Tim Monger, head of the North and East Asia cluster.

With 25 years of experience in banking, San joined Citi in April 2019 as regional chief compliance officer for Asia-Pacific. Prior to that, she was with UBS where she spent 14 years in various senior management positions, including APAC group regional head of compliance and operational risk control and general counsel of wealth management for North Asia.

Welcoming the move, Monger said, “Hong Kong is a key growth market and regional hub for Citi. As we continue to grow our wealth management and institutional clients' business in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area, her deep understanding of the operating environment and key issues in the region make her the ideal leader to steer the Hong Kong franchise forward.”

San is succeeding Angel Ng who was appointed Asia head of Citi Global Wealth in April, Citi added.

Citi is a banking partner for institutions with cross-border needs, a global leader in wealth management and a personal bank in its home market of the United States, doing business in more than 160 countries and jurisdictions.
