Change At The Top At Part Of HSBC

The global banking group has a new CEO for part of its operations.

HSBC, which issued its interim financial results earlier this week, has announced that Antonio Simoes will become chief executive of HSBC Bank plc and chief executive for Europe, taking the post from 1 September.

Simoes joined HSBC in 2007 from McKinsey & Co. He led the Hong Kong/London-listed bank’s group strategy and merger and acquisition activities, and in 2009 assumed responsibilities for planning and chief of staff to the group CEO.

In January 2012, Simoses was appointed head of retail banking and wealth management for Europe. In November 2012, he was appointed chief executive of the UK bank and deputy CEO, HSBC Bank plc.

Antonio Simoes succeeds Alan Keir, who will step down as CEO of HSBC Bank effective 30 September, and will retire from the group as of 31 March 2016, after a 34-year career at HSBC. Keir joined HSBC in 1981 and has worked in a variety of roles before being appointed to his current position in October 2013.
