CPAs: Brown and Brown links up with UHY Advisors

Local player lauds access to broader service platform, more biz
resources. Boston-based certified public accountancy Brown &
Brown plans to merge with the New England unit of UHY Advisors.
The parties say the tie-up “will provide the personalized level
of service found in smaller local firms with the resources and
support found in the larger national firms.”
The companies aren’t talking about the financial details of the
deal, which they expect to have completed by the end of this
month.
More resources
In essence, Brown & Brown will become part of UHY Advisors’
office in Boston as an independent member firm of UHY
International “with no compromise in staff [and no] interruption
in service to customers of either firm,” according to a press
release.
“We believe this merger provides us with an extraordinary
opportunity to better serve the expanding needs of our regional
and national clients,” says Brown & Brown managing partner Carl
Jenkins. “UHY Advisors offers multiple service lines that both
complement and greatly expand the services we previously offered
including internal audit, IT audit, Sarbanes-Oxley consulting,
flexible staffing and health and benefits consulting.”
On the business-development side, the “opportunity” for Jenkins
speaks also extends to UHY Advisors’ personnel, training,
advertising and marketing resources.
Meanwhile UHY Advisors CEO Steve Samek sees his firm benefiting
from the deal as well. “There's a lot we can learn from the Brown
& Brown management and staff, and we should look for
opportunities to reach out to them whenever appropriate,” he
says. “They have a number of best of class processes and
practices which we can adopt.”
Brown & Brown is a full-service accountancy with offices in
Boston and Westborough, Mass., that serves small-businesses and
their owners.
New Haven. Conn.-based UHY Advisors provides accounting and
business-consulting services to public companies, middle-market,
and privately owned businesses from 20 offices across the U.S.
