Billionaire Brothers Step Down From Religare

Religare Enteprises chairman Malvinder Mohan Singh and director Shivinder Mohan Singh have resigned from the company, paving the way for a reshuffling among senior ranks.

The billionaire brothers, who have a combined net worth $3 billion, are planning to focus their energies on healthcare-related assets Fortis Healthcare Ltd and Parkway Holdings Ltd, the company said in a statement. Fortis Healthcare is a known hospital chain in the country, while Singapore's Parkway Holdings is the largest hospital operator in Asia in terms of sales.

Sunil Godhwani has been named the new chairman of the company, as well as its managing director. Shachindra Nath and Anil Saxena have also been appointed into the board, with Nath being the new chief executive officer.

The Singh brothers were ranked by Forbes Magazine as the 17th richest in India in 2009. Fortis, one of the Singh family's core businesses, last month purchased a 23.9 per cent stake in Parkway for $685 million, as part of its drive to expand into the Middle East and Asia.
