Barclays Wealth Adds To UK, Ireland Private Banking Advisory Board

Barclays Wealth has added Stuart Counsell to its UK and Ireland private banking advisory committee, a body comprised of eight members who are charged with promoting the firm and helping it to win new business.

The advisory committee’s focus is on supporting Barclays Wealth’s existing client relationships, and as well as speaking at the firm’s events its members also advise on key business issues. The members of the committee are Ffion Hague, Sir Christopher Howes, Christopher Mathias, Derek Zissman, Mark Kibblewhite and Jack Perry, with Sir Nigel Rudd as chair.

Counsell has been specifically appointed to promote Barclays Wealth in the northern region of the UK and will work closely with Andy Houston, head of regions, and his leadership team, the firm said in a statement.

Counsell is a 30-year veteran of Deloitte, having run the accountancy and counsultancy firm’s network of 17 UK offices outside of London. He was latterly managing partner in charge of the firm’s finance and legal division in the UK, sitting on the executive committee as part of this role.

“This is a significant appointment which demonstrates our commitment to the continued build-out and growth of Barclays Wealth in the North… Stuart has an excellent reputation in the marketplace and has acted as advisor to numerous businesses in the UK, particularly in the North, on their corporate finance and accountancy needs,” said David Semaya, head of the UK & Ireland private banking business.

In other recent senior appointments, earlier this month former JP Morgan senior manager Christian Berchem was named as  head of high net worth within the UK & Ireland private banking business. To be based in London, reporting to Semaya, he takes up his new role in September.

Berchem was most recently co-head of European sales at JP Morgan, having previously been head of European equity sales from 2006 to 2010. Prior to this he was co-head of equities for Germany at JP Morgan and a managing director at Merrill Lynch.
