Banc Of California Launches Private Banking Service

The Los Angeles-based lender is extending its business banking relationships into clients’ personal finances and pitching itself as a banking partner to RIAs.

Banc of California has launched a private banking service for high net worth individuals, family offices, business owners and executives, covering their personal banking needs alongside existing business relationships with the bank.

Clients will be assigned a dedicated private banker and private client service manager, BoC said in a statement yesterday.

The offering includes premium deposit accounts, customized personal loans and lines of credit, treasury services and digital banking tools. The service centers on banking rather than investment management; the bank said it will work with wealth managers and registered investment advisors to meet their clients’ banking, lending and liquidity needs.

The unit will be led by Aaron Houpis, executive vice president and managing director of specialty deposits and private banking. Houpis, who joined Banc of California in 2019 as a market executive in its specialty banking group, was promoted to head the specialty deposits group in 2024. He previously spent 10 years at Comerica Bank in retail and business banking roles.

NYSE-listed Banc of California operates 77 branches across California and in Denver and Durham, North Carolina. Its core business is lending and treasury management for small, middle-market and venture-backed companies. It took its current form after merging with PacWest Bancorp in November 2023.
