BNP Paribas Wealth Slammed By Singapore Lawsuit

BNP Paribas Wealth Management is facing a major lawsuit by a Singapore-based client who claims that the bank made unauthorised trades that led to a loss of S$1.1 million ($898,000), Bloomberg writes.
Nitine Jantilal, a client of the French wealth manager since 2002 and claimed BNP had made unlawful withdrawals that resulted on a drop to S$4.2 million on his account in July 2009. The private bank has reportedly denied any wrongdoing and countered that all the trades in question were made under the client's knowledge. The trial is set to run for eight days in the Singapore High Court.
A spokeswoman for BNP Paribas said the bank would not comment on an ongoing legal case.
This is not the first time a wealth management client has sued a private bank for allegedly making unwarranted transactions. Early this year, former UBS client Scott Francis Tyne filed a lawsuit against the bank in Australia for reportedly selling bonds with questionable background. HSBC also faced the court after a group of Taiwanese banks accused the US firm of defrauding them of over $500 million under a deceased financier's account.
