BMO Names New Asset Management Boss

The group has recently reorganized its private bank and brokerage businesses.

Canada’s BMO Financial Group has named Kristi Mitchem as chief executive of its global asset management arm, filling a slot left by Richard Wilson, who is retiring after being in post since 2014. The appointment takes effect from March 18.

Mitchem will report to Joanna Rotenberg, group head, BMO Wealth Management.

Prior to this, Mitchem was chief executive and head of Wells Fargo Asset Management, where she led 28 investment teams with about $500 billion in assets under management. She has also worked at State Street Corporation, BlackRock, and Goldman Sachs.

Among other recent developments at BMO, the Toronto-based group swept two of its businesses – a private bank and brokerage organization – into a single business known as BMO Private Wealth Canada and Asia. The lender unified its BMO Private Banking and full-service brokerage BMO Nesbitt Burns, under one leadership team.
