An Evening To Empower Children Through Power Of Play
Many people took play for granted when they were children, but others aren't as fortunate. The "power of play" to overcome challenges and build a happy and grounded life is the driving force of a charity that this publication is delighted to call a partner.
(An earlier version of this article was published late last week on WealthBriefing. We thought that readers outside the UK might be interested in this venture.)
Right To Play UK, this news service’s charity partner, has announced details of its popular annual Sports Quiz event. This year’s annual fundraiser will take place at the InterContinental Park Lane in London on November 23; it promises to kick off the festive season with a night of sporting trivia, celebrity guests and competitive fun.
This year's interactive event will be hosted by sports broadcaster John Inverdale, who will take the helm as quizmaster for the evening. Inverdale will be joined by sporting legends including John Barnes, Chemmy Alcott and Sander Westerveld, as guests test their sporting knowledge, compete for the coveted Sports Quiz trophy, and help to raise funds to protect, educate and empower children around the world.
The evening is Right To Play’s flagship fundraising event in the UK. It supports the charity’s work to help children to stay in school and graduate, to resist exploitation and overcome prejudice, to prevent disease, and to heal from war and abuse. As pioneers in a unique approach to learning, both inside and outside of the classroom, Right To Play creates programs around the world that harness play, one of the most fundamental forces in a child’s life, to help children dismantle barriers and embrace opportunities.
Last year, thanks to the incredible generosity of guests on the night, the event raised more than £300,000 ($374,000) to support Right To Play’s work, enabling vulnerable children in 15 countries in Asia, Africa and the Middle East to stay in education and develop key life skills to help them rise above adversity.
