Boston, MA-headquartered asset management firm Affiliated Managers Group has appointed David Billings as executive vice president and general counsel.
Billings starts his new role at the end of June and is responsible for the legal, regulatory, compliance and corporate governance functions at the company. He will report to Sean Healey, chairman and chief executive, and will succeed John Kingston, III - who stays as vice chairman.
He joins from the law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld in London, where he was a partner.
“David brings a great depth of legal knowledge and global leadership experience to our senior management team,” said Healey. “His broad understanding of the asset management business, combined with his extensive work in the corporate and government arenas, make him ideally suited to serve as our general counsel.”
AMG is a global asset management company with equity investments in boutique investment firms and had assets under management of £594 billion ($999.4 billion) as at end-March 2014.
In May, the firm acquired a majority equity interest in Veritas Asset Management, following a raft of expansionary moves.
