HSBC Finance Realigns US Strategy With Key Appointments

HSBC Finance Corporation has appointed Patrick Burke as chief executive officer.

Burke, who took up his new role on 12 July, replaces Niall Booker, who has been named CEO of HSBC North America Holdings. Burke presently serves as senior executive vice president and CEO of card and retail services for the company. Prior to that, he assumed several senior positions including as chief financial officer of HFC Bank in the UK and president and CEO of HSBC Financial Corporation Canada.

The announcement came with the appointment of Brian Hughes as executive vice president and head of card and retail services for HSBC Finance. He was most recently EVP, marketing, for card and retail services.

Both appointments come as HSBC is winding down its non-core businesses in the US and placing a greater focus on its cards business, which has a relatively wide client base. HSBC Finance is a subsidiary of HSBC North America Holdings, one of the largest bank holding firms in the US with assets of $345 billion.
